Tretinoin is an effective medication that is used for treating acne and decreases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, blemishes, whiteheads, skin discoloration, and blackheads. Tretinoin is a form of Vitamin A that is used for the treatment of comedonal acne, acne vulgaris and has the ability to heal the acne more quickly.

The Mechanism Of Action Of Tretinoin:

Tretinoin helps in the renewal of the skin and in the removal of other skin flaws such as acne, wrinkles, and blackheads by promoting the collagen formation. It has the ability to adjust the abnormal follicular keratinization, upholds the detachment of cornified cells and augments the shedding of corneocytes from the follicle. This leads to extrusion of comedo contents from the skin and results in a decrease in the lesion of acne vulgaris.

The Dosage Regimen Of Tretinoin:

You should always wash your hands and the area of the skin you are treating thoroughly with a mild soap and dry gently. You should wait for 10-15 minutes to dry your skin completely before applying. A thin layer of Tretinoin should be applied once a day, before bedtime to the skin where acne lesions appear. Do not wash the treated area for at least one hour after applying the cream. Do not apply Tretinoin near to your nose, mouth, eyes or inner ear.

Contraindications Of Tretinoin:

  • If you are allergic to Tretinoin or any of the ingredient present in it, then do not use Tretinoin.
  • Tretinoin is contraindicated to be used in patients under the age of 12.

Precautions while taking Tretinoin:

  • Avoid exposing your skin to sunlight while using Tretinoin because it can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight and sunburn may occur.
  • You should not use Tretinoin on sunburned, dry, chapped, windburned, irritated, or broken skin.
  • You should avoid applying Tretinoin in wounds or on the areas of eczema.
  • If you are a pregnant woman or a lactating mother, then do not apply this medication on your skin.
